Rail Ballast, otherwise known as railway ballast and track ballast is an aggregate formed from crushed stones such as granite and other smaller materials such as clay. Primarily utility and construction companies use railway ballast to provide a level base for rails and sleepers.
We ensure that our rail ballast is consistent in texture as upon application we recognise its important to maintain a level base for tracks and sleepers. The rough nature of rail ballast allows efficient drainage, in order to keep the sleepers in dry, working condition. This also helps prevent the growth of weed and other vegetation. Our railway ballast is tested to high standards to make sure it is strong enough to resist damage or abrasion and prevent movement. We understand how important it is to use high-quality rail ballast for safety and maintenance purposes.
Main Uses:
- Railway Tracks
- Railway Sleepers
We tend to supply angular stones as opposed to rounded stones as their interlocking nature helps prevent movement in comparison to round stones. These stones also do not degrade when wet and have a smooth surface. We’re very selective on the type of stones we supply and all of our rail ballast is sourced responsibly and in an environmentally friendly manner.
Grab lorries, mini grab lorries and tipper lorries are the vehicles that we use to deliver the rail ballast either loose or in bulk bags. Each of these vehicles are installed with the latest in tracking equipment to allow our transport manager to continually monitor the status of your delivery and react should there be any potential delays. You can select the exact tonnage you require and the form of delivery at checkout.
